Roman Road To Salvation

There is an excellent scriptural pathway, in the book of Romans, for explaining to someone why we all need Jesus and how we begin a life of obedience to Him. The title given to this scripture: “Roman Road To Salvation,” however, can be very misleading.
There is no bible recipe for salvation … there are no “do these steps and now you are saved” instructions in scripture. The so-called “Roman Road” is only the beginning, the launching point, for a Christian life, which should end with our having endured, having finished the course and having kept the faith. Remember, Jesus said: “He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” (Rev 3:5
The “Roman Road” does, however, provide us with a very good sequence of scripture for explaining why we need Jesus and how one begins a life of dedication and service to Him. Listed below is a common version of the “Roman Road To Salvation”.
1. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
2. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
3. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
4. Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
5. Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
6. Romans 10:13 , "for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Good scriptures, but we must not forget that you cannot find the story of salvation in a single book of the bible. The process of salvation spans the entire bible and thus to focus in on one set of scriptures will distort the true picture of God’s grace toward mankind. How can we ignore Jesus’ words: “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned (Mark 16:15-16).
Our mission is to: Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever Jesus commanded …(Matthew 28:19-20).
We certainly are not to give people a recipe for salvation and tell them this will guarantee them a one-way ticket to heaven regardless of what they do in the future.
